Moles
The moles, desmans and “shrew moles” make up the family of mammals called Talpidae, from the Latin meaning “mole”, and comprise about 17 genera and 50 species worldwide. There are nine species of very similar looking moles of the Talpa genus found across the Palaearctic, with a single species, Talpa europaea, in Britain.
