Corvids
Globally, the Corvidae (a family of bird colloquially known as corvids) comprises nearly 140 species. The British Isles is home to eight of these species: the rook (Corvus frugilegus); Western jackdaw (Corvus monedula); Red-billed or Cornish chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax); Carrion crow (Corvus corone); raven (Corvus corax); Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius), magpie (Pica pica); and Hooded crow (Corvus cornix). Two species, the chough and hooded crow, are highly restricted in their distribution, while the remaining six are found through the UK.
